On May 14, 1995, six-year-old Gedhun Choekyi Nyima was recognized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as one of Tibet’s most important religious leaders, the 11th Panchen Lama. Just days later, on May 17, 1995, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima and his family were taken into custody by the Chinese authorities and have not been seen in public since. On April 25, 2016, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima will turn 27 years old. This should be an occasion of great celebration for Tibetans everywhere; but instead, we will mark this occasion in protest as the Panchen Lama has been a prisoner of the Chinese government for 21 years. Around the world, Tibetans and people of conscience have not given up hope for Gedhun Choekyi Nyima and continue to call for his release.

Le 14 mai 1995, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, âgé de six ans, a été reconnu par Sa Sainteté le Dalaï Lama comme l'un des chefs religieux les plus importants du Tibet, le 11ème Panchen Lama.
